U2 busks, Bono bikes, in runup to 'Tonight Show' appearance

Bono waves as he and the rest of U2 -- Adam Clayton, The Edge and Larry Mullen Jr. -- arrive at an awards show in Berlin in November.

Story highlights

  • Bono's injuries from bicycle accident last year forced band to cancel earlier appearance
  • The singer re-created the accident with Fallon on Sunday
  • Then, on Monday, the band sang at Grand Central Terminal.
(CNN)On Friday, U2 will make a long-delayed visit to "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon," but New Yorkers have already seen a fair bit of what may appear on the show.
The Irish rockers spent some time busking at New York's Grand Central Terminal on Monday, a day after U2 singer Bono was spotted with Fallon on the street outside the show's studio re-enacting the bicycle accident that forced the band to cancel plans for a weeklong residency on the show in 2014.
The New York Post reported that band wore disguises to the subway gig, but ditched them before performing "Angel of Harlem."
Photos and videos posted to social media show Bono in a blue cowboy hat, The Edge and Adam Clayton playing acoustic guitar and acoustic bass, and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. banging on a set of upturned 5-gallon buckets.
An open guitar case -- the classic busker's tip jar -- rests on the floor between Bono and guitarist The Edge.
A day earlier, the Post reported, Bono and Fallon were spotted outside the 30 Rockefeller Center studios of the "Tonight Show," re-creating the accident last year that left Bono unable to perform and possibly ending his ability to play the guitar.
"Bono, WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN A BIKE ?!," one Twitter user posted with a photo of the singer and Fallon riding bicycles.
In November, Bono suffered extensive injuries following what doctors called a "high-energy" bicycle accident in Central Park.
The band had been scheduled to spend a weeklong "residency" on the Tonight Show, but had to cancel that and other appearances following Bono's accident.
